How To Use Blackhead Vacuum

While there are several ways to remove blackheads, one of the popular ways to remove blackheads is using a Blackhead Removal Vacuum.

This quick No-BS guide will explain how to use a blackhead vacuum properly while minimizing the risk of bruising your skin (yes, it is possible if you don't follow the instructions thoroughly).

First Things First: The Prep

Before you start suctioning the hell out of your nose, it is important to make sure that your skin is soft and malleable to avoid bruising your skin. So, be sure to have your face warmed with either a hot shower or warm towel for 5-10 minutes to allow pores to be opened and exposed. Alternatively, you can also use a hot facial steamer on your face for 3-5 minutes to open up the pores.

Arash Akhavan, MD, dermatologist and founder of The Dermatology and Laser Group in NYC, also recommends taking a hot shower or some steam before extraction, as mentioned in the article on Cosmopolitan.

Selecting The Right Nozzle

Different pore vacuum devices come with different set of removable nozzles or beauty heads that are designed to used on different types of blemishes. Some may include 3 nozzles, while others may come with 5.

Whatever the case may be, you should select the nozzle that fits the blackhead you're trying to get rid of. Generally, you should use smaller attachments for single, pin-sized spots and larger attachments for bigger clogs. Snap your preferred nozzle at the frond end of your vacuum.

The Fun Part: Suctioning

Make sure to charge your device before your proceed with vacuuming the pores. You'll not want your device to run out of charge in the middle of the suction process, else you'd miss the fun!

Like the nozzles, every device has different levels of intensity. Most pore vacuums come with 3 or more intensity levels. We recommend starting on the lowest intensity level (level 1), then gradually work your way up to level 3.

Depending on your skin type and the setting used this device may cause "love bites" or bruising. We recommend testing out your blackhead pore vacuum on a small patch of your skin before proceeding with the full treatment.

Chloe Metzger, deputy beauty director at Cosmopolitan, almost GOT HER RELATIONSHIP ENDED after trying out the pore vacuum on her boyfriend's nose. Check out their hilarious yet dreadful story here.

Turn on the vacuum. Select the intensity level you feel comfortable with. Evenly apply suction on your skin in a slow outwards gliding motion. It is recommended to not keep the suction in one place for more than 3 seconds.

After extracting the biggest part of your blackhead, move the vacuum gently over other areas to suck out other clogs and troublesome spots.

Gently work your way around your desired treatment area (nose or face) for 4-7 minutes, watching as the vacuum sucks the gunk out of your skin.

In all honesty, it is that easy to use the blackhead vacuum but it is as easy to bruise your skin if you're not careful.

Post Treatment

Once finished, rinse your face with cold water or hold a cold towel on your face for 1 minute to calm the skin and close your pores. You may finish off by applying a facial cream or moisturizer of your choice to re-hydrate your skin or simply allowing your pores to breathe.
